You may have noticed that a hole has been punched through the sound wall above GA400. While this development is rather innocuous when viewed from the interstate, it is actually an indication of construction beginning on Path400’s newest exciting addition that will connect Miami Circle with Lenox Square.
Once completed, the 5.2 mile Path400 will connect Buckhead walkers, joggers, bikers, and pet owners with trails in Sandy Springs and North Fulton County to the north and the Atlanta Beltline in the south. Path400 is the first step of The Buckhead Collection; a comprehensive greenspace action plan that will connect plazas, gathering spaces, neighborhood parks, community greens, dog parks, historical and cultural resources, and greenways and paths throughout the community.
Spearheaded by Livable Buckhead, the ambitious Buckhead Collection project has been underway since the vision was developed in October of 2010 by City Councilman and Buckhead resident Howard Shook. The aim is to provide a network of paths and trails that will ease congestion and encourage alternative modes of eco-friendly transportation such as biking and walking, supply meaningful greenspace to residents, maximize proximate real estate value, contribute athletic fields and sporting opportunities, and facilitate social gatherings in public spaces for neighbors. Public art, cultural, and historical exhibits are a core value of Path400, adding vibrancy and walkability to an area that continues to grow increasingly dense by the day.
Two walking tours of the new construction are scheduled for Friday, November 2 from 2 to 4pm and Saturday, November 3 from 10am to 12pm.
