Tiny Doors ATL, an Atlanta-based art project run by local artist Karen Anderson Singer, has been bringing smiles through a series of carefully crafted miniature doors installed around the city since 2014. The whimsical doors are no more than 7 inches high and hidden in plain sight at iconic spots including one nestled in a tree trunk near the Swan Coach House. On the weekend of October 16 the team at Livable Buckhead brought Singer on for a unique installation along Path400, a project called Big PATH, Tiny Parks.
Over the weekend the stretch of Path400 between Old Ivy Road and Lenox Road was host to more than 40 tiny parks designed by nonprofit organizations and local businesses. The small footprint of the parks, measuring only 14 by 18 inches, was complemented by custom soundscapes by local DJ Mike Zarin of ZEGI. Viewers in person and online were able to vote for their favorite parks in the categories of Most Unusual, People’s Choice, Most Creative Reuse of Material, Best Community Team, and Most Wanted Features for Path400.
“Traditionally, in the fall we host our PARK(ing) Day event with 2000+ attendees but like everyone else in the world we had to rethink how to safely host an experience that shared the same mission – more public art and greenspace,” wrote Anna Sharp in a message on Livable Buckhead’s website.
