Renovations at Buckhead Plaza began in 2020. The first two phases of the renovation are completed, and Melissa McNamara with Cousins Properties says the rest of the project is running on schedule.
The initial phase of the renovation includes a pedestrian bridge between parking decks and new graphics for easier navigation on the property.
The third phase of the renovation improves the landscaping and connecting walkways around One Buckhead Plaza. This includes new stairways and sidewalks that connect the high rise with nearby shopping and dining. It looks as if they are working on the finishing touches now, and this section is scheduled to be completed in March of 2021.
Phases four and five have already begun. Both phases are scheduled to be completed by the end of the summer 2021. Along with new storefronts, the Plaza will be adding an open container permit so that visitors can enjoy an adult beverage in the Plaza.
Phase five will complete the improvements to the area between One Buckhead Plaza and the St Regis, behind Chops. This phase includes a 4,000 sq ft activity lawn and lots of outdoor seating options, including outdoor dining at Chops.
The final phase of the renovation will be a new valet drop off and improvements to the parking deck entrance on Buckhead Avenue. The entire project is scheduled to be completed in October 2021.
We are excited to see construction resume on the Phipps Plaza development of a new Nobu Hotel/Restauraunt and a flagship Life Time Fitness we first reported on in 2018. Construction was halted in 2020 because of the pandemic, but now the entire site is bustling with activity.
Amy Williams with Life Time Fitness tells me they are planning to open the new facility in late 2022. She also confirmed that, “the Life Time will be approximately 90,000 square feet once completed, and include one floor for Life Time Work, our premier coworking space, and two floors dedicated to our Life Time athletic resort.”
The Nobu Hotel is the most complete part of the expansion so far. The hotel tower is built, including the roof, and it looks to have most of its windows installed. The Nobu Website reports that the hotel and restaurant are expected to open in 2022.
Construction has also begun on the 12-story office tower that will round out the expansion. Randall Jackson with Simon Properties told me that although the project is back in “full swing”, they do not have a clear timeline for when the project will be complete. I will be checking in with Randall in a few weeks for an update.
