The holiday season will be celebrated this month in Buckhead’s central business district with a variety of events promoted as “Miracle on Peachtree.”
The largely Christmas-focused promotion, led by the nonprofit Livable Buckhead, includes such events as tree-decorating, a tree-lighting and a “hot chocolate crawl.” It also promotes a concert at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church and events at the Buckhead Village District, Lenox Square and Shops Around Lenox shopping centers.
“‘Miracle on Peachtree’ has something for everyone,” said Livable Buckhead Executive Director Denise Starling in a press release. “Come get a taste of the holiday spirit!”
The following are highlights of the programs, most of which are free. For full details, see the Livable Buckhead website.
Tree Decorating, Dec. 3, noon-3 p.m.
This event allows people to join in decorating Christmas trees that will be arranged along Buckhead Avenue within the Buckhead Village District shopping complex at 3035 Peachtree Road. The trees will remain on display through the weekend, and then will be donated to the Atlanta Fire Rescue Foundation for distribution to local fire stations. Livable Buckhead is also seeking people, businesses and organizations to join an “Adopt-a-Tree” program for that effort.
The decorating event coincides with the shopping complex’s own “Holidays in Technicolor” event (see below for details) and includes live entertainment, food and s’mores served at fire pits.
Later in the evening, Livable Buckhead will hold a tree-lighting in Charlie Loudermilk Park at Peachtree and Roswell roads.
Hot Chocolate Crawl, Dec. 10, 5:30-8:30 p.m.
This free event is a stroll along Peachtree Road, with hot chocolate and speciality cocktails offered at certain spots along the way. A variety of musicians and other performers will provide entertainment. The first 100 attendees will get a “commemorative ceramic campfire mug.”
This choir will perform along with a full orchestra and church organ on Dec. 16 and 17 at 7 p.m. at Peachtree Road United Methodist Church, 3180 Peachtree Road. The program includes Christmas carols, “sacred classics” and holiday songs. Tickets are $15 to $40.
These free events are held in the shopping complex at 3035 Peachtree Road.
Holidays in Technicolor, Saturdays through Dec. 17, noon-6 p.m.
These “Holiday Shop & Stroll” events include family activities and crafts, live music, “roaming performances,” Santa appearances, s’mores by fire spits, in-store events and more.
Atlanta Christkindl Market, through Dec. 24
A traditional German holiday market presented by the German American Cultural Foundation, featuring over 50 vendors, plus live music and entertainment on the weekends.
The mall at 3393 Peachtree Road will host Christmas carolers on Dec. 3, 2-5:30 p.m., and “mirror ballerinas and an interactive snow globe” in a performance on Dec. 17, 2-8 p.m. It also will host various visits and photos with Santa for children and pets.
The shopping center at 3400 Around Lenox Road will hold two events in its courtyard by Tecovas and CorePower Yoga that are free but require RSVPs available through links on the Livable Buckhead website. The 2003 Christmas comedy film “Elf” will screen Dec. 1 at 6:30 p.m., with free hot cocoa, “espresso martinis,” s’mores and movie snacks; attendees should bring their own chairs and blankets. A “Holiday Mini Market” will run in the same spot with many similar amenities on Dec. 10, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., also include a cookie decoration bar, do-it-yourself ornaments and a paint-your-own dreidel station.
On Dec. 17 from 2 to 4 p.m., the shopping center will have wandering Christmas carolers and free hot cocoa and coffee.
