The Buckhead Heritage Society is accepting nominations for its second annual historic preservation award.
The Belle Turner Lynch Preservation Award is named for the late co-founder of Buckhead Heritage, who advocated against demolition of historic structures in her Peachtree Heights West neighborhood. Buckhead Heritage is a nonprofit preservation advocacy group.
The debut award last year went to a trio involved in a plan to preserve part of a historic book bindery and former bookstore, pictured above, in a condo tower plan at 2395 Peachtree Road. The recipients were community activist Laura Dobson, who led the advocacy for years, and developers Richard Lee of Branch Properties and Aaron Taulbee of Kolter Urban.
Nominees can include individuals, nonprofit organizations, public agencies and corporations “whose skill and determination have given new meaning to their communities through preservation of their architectural and cultural heritage,” according to Buckhead Heritage.
“These efforts include citizen attempts to save and maintain important landmarks; companies and craftsmen whose work restores the richness of the past; the vision of public officials who support preservation projects and legislation in their communities; and educators and journalists who help Americans understand the value of preservation,” according to the group.
